Get tickets From the 12 July – 15 July, Hearing Voices will be playing at Notting Hill’s Coronet Print Room. Hearing Voices is a multi -media song -cycle for solo voice, ensemble and recorded voices, exploring the pain, laughter and protest of women who hav e experienced mental illness across generations. Hearing Voices, directed b y Emma Bernard (text/lyrics/dramaturgy), performed by Melanie Pappenheim, with visuals by Dragan Aleksic, focuses on fiv e moving stori es – the reco rded testimony and words of Jocelyn’s m other, her great a unt Phyllis Willia ms who was inc arcerated in an asylum for 25 years, seamstress Agnes Richter and artists Julie McNamara & Bobby Baker, documenting evolving perceptions of mental illness. Dragan Aleksic’s specially created installations ac company Hearin g V oices at th e Coronet. Aleksic’s art installations are dispersed throughout this historic Victorian playhouse, triggering me mories, visual and physical sensations, and creating a journey across unique emotional landscapes. A post-show discussion with the cast and creative team will take place on Thursday 13 July, hosted by Errol Francis, CEO of Culture& with special guests Bobby Baker of Daily Life Ltd and Jacqui Dillon – writer, activist, international speaker, trainer and chair of the Hearing Voices Network. Hearing Voices was ori ginal ly commission ed by the BBC Concert Orchestra in 2012 and subsequently reworked for chamber ensemble for t he 2015 Tête à Tête Opera Festival. The cast includes: Melanie Pappenheim (mezzo soprano), Preetha Narayanan (violin), Jocelyn Pook (viola), Laura Moody (cello) and Susi Evans on Clarinet.
